Two lanes, one problem: getting good work seen.

The engineering lane

I’ve been building software professionally for over 12 years. Most of that time has been in the frontend — React, React Native, Next.js, TypeScript — with enough backend work in Node.js, GraphQL, and Python that I’ve never needed to hand a feature off halfway.

The work I’m proudest of tends to be the unglamorous kind: AI-driven dynamic onboarding that contributed to $300M in sales, a cross-platform mobile app at Wave serving roughly a million users, and a frontend test automation effort that took a regression cycle from three days down to four hours. Reusable components that other teams actually adopt. Workshops that make a junior engineer dangerous in a good way.

The lane I didn’t plan on

I moved to Canada as an experienced engineer and learned something uncomfortable: strong skills don’t automatically translate. The North American market reads resumes differently than services markets do, and nobody tells you that on the way in. You just apply, and apply, and hear nothing.

I figured it out for myself, then started helping other people figure it out. That turned into a CDI Certified Resume Analyst credential, then 400+ resume reviews for internationally trained engineers stuck in the same loop, then HireDoc — an interview-based tool that pulls real impact out of your work instead of paraphrasing what’s already on the page.

Outside the work

I’m originally from Karachi, Pakistan, and studied at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences. I started out building games — Unity, Cocos2D, LibGDX — and won a handful of hackathons and game jams along the way, including Google’s Develop for Good in the green category. That’s still where the instinct to just build the thing comes from.

I read a lot, mostly about craft, confidence, and how businesses actually work. I write about both of my lanes on LinkedIn, where 400+ resume reviews have turned into a fairly opinionated body of work on the North American job search.
